How to Undelete the Contents in a Recycle Bin

When you delete a file in Windows 7, you are not actually deleting the file, only moving it to the Recycle Bin. From the bin, you can either permanently delete the file or undelete the files. You can undelete all the files in the bin or choose only those files you wish to keep. All versions of the Windows operating system allow you the option to undelete files.

      Double-click on the "Recycle Bin" icon on your desktop.

      Position your mouse over the file you wish to undelete. Click once on the file name.

      Locate the "Restore this item" button on the toolbar. Click on the button and the file will be returned it its original location.

      Click the "Restore all items" button to undelete all files in the recycle bin.

Tips & Warnings

  • Once you delete files from the recycle bin, you will need special software to recover them.

  • If you not see the recycle bin icon on your computer, click the "Start" button and type "desktop icons" in the search box. Click "Show or Hide Desktop Icons" from the options. Click on the box next to "Recycle Bin" to display the bin on your desktop.
