How to Send an OTA SMS

An over-the-air short messaging service (OTA SMS) allows you to update your cellular phone software to new software. This is done by typing and sending specific short codes into your cellular device. Once your mobile network receives the short code, the mobile network will update your phone to the latest software or service version on your phone. The information that updates on your phone depends on the short code that you send OTA.

Instructions

1. Look in your owner's manual for "Short Codes." If you do not have any short codes listed in your manual, contact your wireless provider and ask for a list of short codes to update your phone.

2. Update the data profile for your phone using an OTA SMS, as an example, using the Sprint network. If you have a phone on the Sprint network, type "##3282."

3. Select "Edit," and choose "Update Data Profile." The Sprint network will reprovision your data profile on your phone.
