How to Find Out If I Am Due Any Military Medals
Contacting the National Personnel Records Center in St. Louis, Missouri, is the way to discover if you are due any military medals. The National Personnel Records Center is the repository for military records for all branches of the service. It can confirm whether you are due any military medals, decorations or awards, and it also replaces medals, decorations and awards. The inquiry process is simple and requires submitting one form to the appropriate address or making the request online through eVetRecs (see Resources).

Download the Standard Form 180 from the National Archives website (see Tesources). Complete Section 1 of the form as thoroughly as possible. In section 2, mark "Other" as what you would like a copy of and write "medals due" in the space provided. For the reason for the request, mark "medals/awards." Complete section 3, which must include your signature.

Request a search through eVetRecs (see resources). If you are a military veteran of the Army or Air Force, or the next of kin of a deceased Army or Air Force veteran, you may request records and medals online. EVetRecs does not allow Navy, Marine Corps or Coast Guard veterans to place a request online for medals.
Complete the forms in eVetRecs as indicated. You will need to print and sign the request form. It will be submitted electronically, but a faxed or mailed copy bearing your signature must be sent. All requests are processed through the National Personnel Records Center.
