How to Fit for Spin Bikes

In 1994, Madd Dogg Athletics Company developed an indoor cycling exercise program, known as Spinning, to go with their specially designed stationary bikes. Offered at fitness centers around the globe by certified instructors, the program mimics road cycling techniques while integrating mental training, visualization, breathing and heart-rate training methods into standard 40-minute workouts. The Spin bikes are fully adjustable and should be individually adjusted to each rider for the most comfortable, effective and safe workout results.

Instructions

    • 1

Find the proper seat height that would allow your knees to remain slightly bent even at the lowest point of the pedal rotation.

    • 2

Adjust the forward/backward position of the seat so that you can comfortably reach the handlebars while keeping your elbows slightly bent.

    • 3

Set the position of the handlebars. Beginners should set them at a fairly high position, and as they gain experience gradually adjust the handlebars until they are nearly level with the seat.

    • 4

Check with your instructor to ensure you have fitted the bicycle properly. Spinning instructors are trained and certified to make sure you are comfortable and safe and can answer any questions you might have.

Tips & Warnings

  • Remember your water bottle to stay hydrated during workouts. You also might want to consider wearing moisture-wicking clothing and investing in padded cycling shorts or a gel seat cover for comfort.

  • After adjusting your Spin bike you always should double check that all pins and adjustments are securely fastened prior to beginning your workout so that no shifting occurs during the middle of it.
