How to Tweak DSL
Tweaking a DSL modem increases the speed of the connection for faster web browsing. DSL connections provide fast access to the Internet without tying up a telephone line. Tweaking a DSL modem in order to gain more speed can be done through the Windows registry. Working with the Windows registry, whether tweaking the modem or other operating environments, requires a working knowledge of computers and the registry itself to prevent potentially catastrophic damage to the computer and to the operating system.

Click the Start menu and select "Run".

Type in "regedit" and press Enter.

Look for the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder, and navigate through the subfolders to reach the:
SYSTEM / CurrentControlSet / Services / Tcpip / Parameters
folder in your Windows registry. The values contained within this registry entry control how fast and effectively the modem handles the speed of your Internet connection.

Right click on "Parameters" Choose "Edit" from the menu.

Select "New". Click "DWORD value" from the menu.

Type a new Name for "TCP/IP Window Size". Hit Enter.

Choose "Decimal" for the "Base Value"

Change the default TCP Windows size to "32767" in order to increase the speed of the TCP/IP packets which are used to transmit data across the Internet. Hit OK to close the registry editor.

Restart the computer.

Tips & Warnings
Use extreme caution when editing anything using the regedit utility. Being unfamiliar with regedit could result in accidentally editing information which results in potentially catastrophic damage to the computer and to the operating system.
