How to Make ATA to a USB Drive Cable

How to Make ATA to a USB Drive Cable thumbnail
Serial ATA (SATA) technology is used to connect hard drives and optical drives to a computer.

Serial ATA (SATA) technology is used in computers to connect hard drives and optical drives to the motherboard. Far superior to the older IDE interface that it was designed to replace, SATA provides much faster data access and transfer speeds while requiring less power consumption. If all of the Serial ATA ports on your motherboard are in use and you'd like to connect a SATA drive to your computer, you can use a USB-to-SATA adapter to create a Serial ATA-to-USB cable.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect a Serial ATA cable to the Serial ATA port on the USB-to-SATA adapter. Make sure the connector is inserted fully into the port. Plug the other end of the Serial ATA cable into your Serial ATA drive.

    • 2

Insert the USB end of the USB-to-SATA adapter into a USB port on your computer. Your Serial ATA-to-USB cable is now ready for use.

    • 3

Turn on your computer, if it isn't already on. Allow a few moments for the computer to recognize the SATA drive. Then, install the drivers that came with the drive, if required. Refer to the product documentation for your SATA drive to determine whether driver installation is necessary.
