How to Find a Pottery Job

How to Find a Pottery Job thumbnail
Potters make more individualized pieces than factories.

If you enjoy making cups, vases or plates in your spare time, you may want to consider a job in pottery. While the exact job description varies depending on the employer, you can be certain that you're going to be working with your hands to craft various things that people will use in their daily life. Finding a steady job working with pottery can be difficult, but you'll increase your odds dramatically by going to the right websites.

Instructions

    • 1

Prepare samples of your work. Either take pictures of the work you have done or be prepared to take the pieces with you. Anyone who interviews you is going to want to see proof that you can do the job.

    • 2

Log on to Tip Top Jobs, located in the resource section. Click on "Manufacturing Jobs," and then "Ceramic/Pottery Maker." From there, select your location to begin your pottery job search.

    • 3

Visit Pottery Jobs, also located in the resource section. From here you'll be able to search for potter jobs anywhere in North America. As of November 2010, the website is free to use.

    • 4

Head to Studio Pottery, located in the resource section. Studio Pottery is a website that allows you to list your pottery for sale in exchange for a commission if the piece sells. You will need to upload a photo of your work.

    • 5

Create your own website and eBay seller page to start a home business making pottery. You'll need to have all of the materials to make pottery at your disposal, but you'll also be able to set your own hours and to some extent your own pay.

    • 6

Upload pictures of your work onto your website. This allows customers to see what is available for purchase.
