How to Pass the Alabama Permit Test
Alabama state law dictates that you must be at least 15 years old and registered in school in order to receive a driver's permit. The driver's permit will allow you the freedom to practice your driver's skills while on the road with a licensed adult in the vehicle. Passing the driver license permit test requires that you take all three parts of the driving test: the written test, the vision test and the road test.
Instructions

1
Download a copy of the Alabama Driver License Manual from the Alabama Department of Public Safety (see Resource 2). Read and study the manual so that you have knowledge of the driving laws in Alabama.
-
2
Gather the necessary documents needed to apply for an Alabama Permit Test. The documents that you will need are your birth certificate and social security card. If you are 15, you will also need proof that you are enrolled in school. For people over 18 who are taking the permit test, you will need a driver with you who has a valid license and a car that is registered and insured.

-
3
Schedule an appointment to take the Alabama Permit Test. Go to the Alabama Department of Public Safety website and go to the "Schedule Your Road Skills Test" page (see Resource 3).
-
4
Pass the eye exam that is given to all drivers who are applying for a license. If you wear contacts or glasses on a regular basis, you need to wear them when you take the vision test, as well as when you get the permit picture.
-
5
Take the Alabama written exam. Take your time and double-check all the answers before you submit them. Practice for the written driver's exam ahead of time by taking pretests and learning the laws of the road as presented in the Alabama Driver Manual. If you do not pass the vision test and the written test, you will not be allowed to attempt the driving test.
-
6
Attend your driving test with the personnel assigned to you. Pay close attention to anything the driving test instructor says and follow all Alabama state driving laws closely. The driver test instructor will grade you on your ability to drive well, and they will make notes if you need to improve on any of your driving skills. The driver test instructor will inform you at the end of the driving test if you passed or failed.
-
7
Get a copy of your permit once the test is complete. You will automatically be notified of your passing scores at each testing level. If you fail one part of the permit driving test, you will not get your permit, but you will be allowed to try again at a later date. Once you have your permit you are only allowed to drive when you have an Alabama licensed driver in the car with you who is over the age 21.
