How to Calculate Your Bodyfat

How to Calculate Your Bodyfat thumbnail
Body fat can be calculated using waist size and body weight.

Your body fat percentage is simply the amount of fat that your body contains compared to other muscles, tissues and nonfat substances. This number is the most accurate way to track weight loss, because you can be sure you're losing fat and not muscle or water weight. A person's body fat percentage can be calculated using the measurement of his waistline and his weight in pounds.

Instructions

    • 1

Find your body weight and multiply that number, in pounds, by 1.082. Add 94.42 to that number and save the result.

    • 2

Measure your waist at the belly button in inches, and multiply that number by 4.15. Save the result.

    • 3

Subtract the number you calculated in Step 2 from the number you calculated in Step 1. This is your lean body mass, or what your weight would be if you had no fat.

    • 4

Subtract your lean body mass from your actual weight in pounds. Multiply the result by 100. Divide the result by your total body weight to calculate your body fat percentage.
