Directions for an Auto Tape Dispenser
Automatic tape dispensers are commonly used in industrial applications for sealing boxes and other packaging. With features such as self cutting and measuring as well as automatic feed, automatic tape dispensers can save time for a busy office or production plant. They typically use gummed, Kraft or carton sealing tapes but will often work with a variety of different tapes. They look complicated with many featuring several buttons or knobs, but are actually very easy to use.

1
Plug in the power cord and find the power button to turn your automatic tape dispenser on.
-
2
Place the tape on the center of the wheel so that the end pulls with the sticky side down. Some tape dispensers feature a flat wheel in which the tape lays flat rather than on its side. In this case, follow the machine's directions for placement of tape. Typically the tape feeds in a clockwise manner.

3
Feed the end of the tape onto the metal feed roller and press the advance or feed key until tape moves through. If the tape will not feed through to the cutter, try folding the edges to form a triangle and re-feed. For a dispenser with knobs instead of electronic keys, turn the knob clockwise to feed the tape through.
-
4
Press the cut key to cut the end of the tape. On most machines this key is indicated by the word "Cut" but some machines will use icons like scissors instead.
-
5
Key in the length of tape you need using the numbered keypad. While most tape dispensers feature a keypad with an LED screen showing the measurement, some will have a selector knob with predetermined measurement indicated on the knob. If this is the case, turn the knob to the measurement that is closest to the length of tape you want.
-
6
Turn the pressure knob to adjust the tape's tension. If you find that the tape is curling or slipping as you feed it through, then increase the pressure. If you find that the tape creases as it's fed, then decrease the pressure.
-
7
Turn the sensor switch on. The tape should feed and cut on its own. When you remove the fed tape, another should feed through.
-
8
Stop automatic feeding by turning the sensor off when not in use.
-
9
Press the feed or advance and cut keys with the auto sensor off and the dispenser will feed just one length of tape.
-
10
Press and hold the advance key in order to feed a different length of tape than what you've programmed into the dispenser. Holding the advance key (or turning the feed knob in older models) overrides the preset cut length feature.

Tips & Warnings
Change the tape in your automatic tape dispenser by pressing reverse. The feed roller will roll backward, taking the tape away from the cut area.
Repair tape jams by pressing the reverse key and removing the tape once it's moved away from the cutting area. You may have to remove the cutter unit to ensure no tape is stuck in the cutter area.
Never put your finger, other body parts, or objects into the tape dispenser. This can both cause injury or damage the machine.
Turn off the power and unplug the tape dispenser when performing maintenance such as blade changing or cleaning.
