How to Change the Ink Cartridges on an MFC-440CN

The Brother MFC-440N has a built-in ink dot counter which keeps track of exactly how much ink is remaining in the cartridge. When the ink is out, a message appears on the printer's LCD screen. For example, when the black ink is out, the LCD displays "Ink Empty Black" and "Replace Ink." When replacing the ink, keep in mind that each cartridge color has its own position in the carriage.

Instructions

    • 1

Power on the Brother MFC-440N printer.

    • 2

Pull the ink cartridge cover down. The ink cartridge cover is located on the right side of the printer.

    • 3

Pull the lock release levers, keeping each cartridge in place, down. Then take out the ink cartridge.

    • 4

Remove the packaging from the new ink cartridge. Also remove the protective yellow cap from the cartridge.

    • 5

Insert the new cartridge into the carriage. Look for the arrow on the side of the cartridge and insert the cartridge into the carriage in the direction that the arrow is pointing.

    • 6

Lift each lock release lever on the carriage and push it back into place until it clicks. Close the cartridge cover. The printer will automatically reset the ink dot counter.
