How to Make a Zipper Tape

How to Make a Zipper Tape thumbnail
Accessories can be made from common zippers.

Zipper tape is a common fashion accessory. Emerging in the 2000s, the zipper as fashion is a type of abstract art that uses a common item as a tool for style and flair. Called zipper tape, you can create your own in just seconds from old zippers or by buying zipper tapes from the store and piecing the tapes of zipper together.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the zipper strips from any clothing items you would like to use, and prepare the strips by cutting off the zipper stops on each side of the strips.

    • 2

Mold your zippers into the shape you would like to use them as. Add multiple layers of zippers and use pins to hold them together, placing one on top of the other. Place zipper layers end on end or on top of one another to add length or depth.

    • 3

Sew the strips together by the ends or sew them on top of one another in the shape that you laid them out as. Sew about every inch along the necklace. You can also use super hot glue, but this may not stick as long as the thread.

    • 4

Sew a closure piece onto the two ends of your zipper tape. These can be two necklace pieces that are sturdy enough to hold your necklace, or than can be any two accessories that will allow you to join one side to the other. These pieces will complete your zipper tape.
