Camera Flash Repair

Camera Flash Repair thumbnail
The flash is in the upper-left hand corner of most cameras.

A camera uses a flash to help illuminate dark areas. If there is a problem with a flash, this can affect the entire picture. If a picture is not lit evenly, certain areas will appear completely dark. If the flash on your digital camera isn't working, there are a few things you can do to repair it. However, if none of these work, you will be forced to take your camera to a professional for repair.

Instructions

    • 1

Replace the batteries. If your flash appears to be completely dead or only works intermittently, it may mean that it is out of power. Replacing old batteries with new ones may fix the problem.

    • 2

Clean off the flash using a damp rag. If your picture is unevenly lit, this may be because particles of dirt have settled on the flash bulb. Clean these off for an evenly lit picture.

    • 3

Consult your camera's operating manual on how to change the flash bulb. If nothing else works, you may need to replace a burned-out flash bulb with a new one. Changing the flash bulb in a camera is different depending on what type of camera you buy.

    • 4

Take your camera to a camera store to have the flash fixed or the bulb replaced. If the camera is unable to be fixed, you still can get the pictures off it either by using a USB cord or transferring the camera's storage chip to a different camera.

Tips & Warnings

  • Even with the batteries out, there is still a chance your camera can give you a shock.
