How to Upgrade Memory on a HP 6640C Pavilion
The rectangular memory board located in your HP Pavilion desktop is the chip which allows the computer to run programs and operate. It is located in the computer tower and is connected to the motherboard. If you want to upgrade the memory in your Pavilion, you will need to open up the tower in order to access the memory.

Power off your HP 6640C and unplug the power cable. Unplug the remaining cables from the back of the computer tower. Place the tower on a sturdy work surface and turn it around so you are facing the back of it.

2
Use your screwdriver to remove the two screws on the back corners of the unit and set them aside.

3
Slide the side panel off of the unit by pulling it back towards you and set it aside. The internal components of the tower will now be exposed. The rectangular memory module will be visible sitting on top of the motherboard.
-
4
Pull the metal tabs at either end of the memory module outward and pull the module out of its port. Set it aside.
-
5
Fit a new DDR2 module in the port and push it gently down until the tabs lock in place. Replace the side panel and screws.
