1
Look at the template for your deadbolt lock instead of trying to figure out all the dimensions yourself. Transfer the markings to your door and drill out the hole with a saw hole bit. Chisel out the square areas with a sharp narrow chisel.
-
2
Tap the deadbolt and its housing into the drilled out opening on the edge of the door with a hammer, using a piece of wood to protect the lock from the hammer.
-
-
3
Take the front and back of the lock face apart and slide them into place making sure you have the thumb turn on the inside and the key hole on the outside. Screw them in place with a Philips head screwdriver.
-
4
Open the deadbolt and close the door until it hits the door jam. Mark the center position of the deadbolt on the inside of the jam and drill it out using the same sized saw hole bit as used in the door. Drill the top hole ¼ inch higher than the center line and the bottom hole ¼ inch lower than the center line.
-
5
Chisel out the area in the center so that both holes combine to make an oval opening for the bolt. Chisel out the bed for the faceplate and screw it in place.
-
6
Close the door and turn the lock.
