In the Victorian era, ornaments were lovingly handmade. Recreate those moments with your family by making some homemade Victorian style ornaments. You can recycle those old Christmas cards from last year, or display pretty Christmas postcards or pictures you enjoy. This is a simple craft for kids to help make and to enjoy hanging on the Christmas tree. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • Christmas cards or pictures secured to card stock or cardboard
  • 1 1/2 cups confectioner sugar
  • Scissors
  • Egg white
  • Piping bag
  • Glue gun
  • Gold hot glue
  • Ribbon

Instructions

      Cut images from the Christmas cards. Oval shaped images and rectangle images will work best.

      Mix the sugar and egg white to make a white frosting.

      Pipe the frosting on to the images using a piping bag. Make designs with the icing around the image as you desire. You can make circles, swirls, dots or wavy lines to accent your image. Allow the frosting to dry.

      Create gold lines over your white frosting lines using a glue gun and gold glitter glue. Embellish the ornaments with the gold to make it sparkle. Allow the glue to dry.

      Hot glue a ribbon loop on the back of each ornament to serve as a hanger so it can be hung on the Christmas tree.

  • Use caution when using a hot glue gun with children.
