How to Heat a Stove-Top Belgi Galette Iron

A galette is a type of small waffle, also known as a Belgi or Belgian cookie. Galettes, expectedly, are made on galette waffle irons. Galette waffle irons come in electrical countertop models and stove-top models. Stove-top models are easy to use. Simply condition and heat the iron, pour in the batter and cook. Before you use your galette iron for the first time, however, be sure to clean it thoroughly according to the manufacturer's instructions.

    Things You'll Need

    • Vegetable oil
    • Sauce brush
    • Fork
      • 1

Coat the interior of the plates with vegetable oil using your sauce brush (or a paper towel). Dip the sauce brush or towel into the oil. Then use the sauce brush or towel to apply a thin coat of oil over the plates.

Place the galette iron onto one of your stove's burners set on medium heat for five to ten minutes.

      • 3

Open the galette iron and test its readiness by dropping a droplet of water in the center of the iron. The water droplet should sizzle. If it does not, allow the iron to heat for another five minutes and test again. If the water still does not sizzle, turn the heat up slightly and test in another five minutes.

      • 4

Add the galette batter to the center of the iron and close it.

      • 5

Flip the galette iron once every 30 to 45 seconds to ensure even heating on each side. The galette will not be done in 30 to 45 seconds. Flip it every 30 to 45 seconds until the recipe's cooking time completes.

      • 6

Remove the galette once the batter stops steaming or after the amount of time prescribed by your recipe.

      • 7

Remove the cookie with a fork.

      • 8

Close the galette iron and allow it to heat for one to two minutes before re-oiling the iron and cooking another galette.
