Adjust Idle Screws on Edelbrock Carburetors

Edelbrock is world famous for their aftermarket performance carburetors. A carburetor is designed to regulate the mixture of air and fuel delivered to an engine. Edelbrock's design allows for full control over the carburetor's settings, which makes it possible to ramp up a vehicle's performance. The idle screws on the front of the carburetor adjust the fuel-to-air ratio when the engine is setting still and should be finely tuned to get the most out of the carburetor.

Instructions

    • 1

Park the vehicle on a level surface and set the parking brake. Leave the engine running.

    • 2

Open the hood and support it in place with the hood prop.

    • 3

Set the air screw to the desired speed. This information can be found on the carburetor's packaging and on a chart in the back of the owner's manual.

    • 4

Turn the idle screw on the left until the engine reaches the highest possible rpm. If this changed the speed on the air screw by more than 40 rpm, readjust the speed. Repeat this with the idle screw on the right.

    • 5

Reset the speed on the air screw and repeat the process of turning the left and right idle screws until maximum rpm is reached.

    • 6

Reset the speed again, then turn the left and right idle screws together until a 20 rpm decrease in speed is reached.

    • 7

Reset the speed on the air screw.
