How to Become a Certified Locksmith in Oregon
According to the Oregon Construction Contractors Board, any person who services or works on locks, vaults or safe deposit boxes in Oregon is required to be certified as a locksmith. Prospective locksmiths in Oregon must pass an exam, a criminal history check as well as pay the applicable licensing fees.

Register for an online service account on the Oregon Construction Contractors Board online services page (see Resources). After you are registered, request "Locksmith Certification" as your requested service. This will enable you to begin the application process.

Fill out the application online to become a locksmith in Oregon and pay the application fee. As of November 2010, the application fee is $60. You must pay another $60 fee to take the certification exam. The exam consists of 80 questions and is given online. Further, the exam is a test to 100 percent accuracy. That means that if you miss a question you must review the questions and re-answer until you get them correct.

Provide criminal history information upon successful completion of the test. Applicants must not have been convicted of a felony within the past seven years to receive certification. Upon Construction Contractors Board approval, you must pay the certification fee for a two-year locksmith certification. As of November 2010, the certification fee is also $60.
