How to Book Rail Tickets
Booking rail tickets in the United States is a one-stop service, since there is only one passenger provider servicing the country - Amtrak. Unlike some other countries that have multiple rail providers offering service, Amtrak was established in 1970 by the U.S. Congress to serve as the sole provider here. Tickets for the company, which provides service to most continental states, the District of Columbia and even parts of Canada, can be purchased online at http://www.amtrak.com/.

Start your search for rail tickets by going to Amtrak's website, where you can find ticket deals, prices and a listing of all train stations.

Decide what type of ticket you need. One-way, round-trip, multi-ride and multi-city tickets are available.

Enter your arrival and departure stations. If you don't know them, click on the "Find a Station" option or "Stations" tab at the top of the page.

Enter departure date and time.

Enter the number of tickets needed and click "Go."

Select your departure and return tickets from the options available, including time and ticket choice.

Tips & Warnings
Tickets can also be booked in many stations through the Quik-Trak ticketing kiosk. Tickets that already have been purchased online can also be printed at the kiosk.
