Instructions

  1. Disassembly

    • 1

Put on safety glasses. The Kahr K40 has some spring-loaded parts that can fly from the pistol during disassembly.

    • 2

Remove the magazine from the Kahr K40 while keeping the pistol pointed in a safe direction. You may have to press a magazine release button to remove the magazine.

    • 3

Pull back the slide to eject any rounds from the chamber while keeping the pistol pointed in a safe direction.

    • 4

Pull the slide back so the two small witness marks on the slide and frame are aligned.

    • 5

Push the slide stop out of the frame of the pistol with a small screwdriver handle.

    • 6

Pull the trigger and ease the slide forward. Release pressure on the trigger and slide the slide off the frame of the pistol.

    • 7

Push the rear of the recoil spring guide forward and lift it upward. Remove the recoil spring and recoil spring guide from the slide.

    • 8

Remove the barrel from the slide.

    Cleaning

    • 9

Pass a bore brush with a small amount of gun cleaning solvent through the barrel about three times.

    • 10

Pass a bore brush with a small amount of gun lubricating oil through the barrel about three times.

    • 11

Clean any debris from the frame, slide, recoil spring, recoil spring guide and the exterior of the barrel with gun cleaning solvent applied with cotton balls. Pay close attention to the firing pin and extractor because excess debris in this area can cause misfires.

    • 12

Apply gun lubricating oil to all moving parts with cotton swabs.

    Reassembly

    • 13

Slide the barrel into place in the frame so that it fits securely against the firing mechanism.

    • 14

Set the recoil spring in place at the end of the slide and insert the recoil spring guide. Make sure the closed end of the recoil spring is at the grip end of the pistol. Press the recoil spring guide through the recoil spring and snap it securely into place.

    • 15

Ease the slide back onto the frame of the pistol. Depress the trigger and slide it all the way into place.

    • 16

Move the slide so the witness marks on the frame and slide are aligned.

    • 17

Slip the slide lock back into its hole.

    • 18

Slide the slide back and lock it in place to check the operation of the slide and slide lock. Dry-fire the Kahr K40 to return the slide to its starting position.
