How to Get a Map From the eTrex Legend
Global Positioning Systems (GPS) allow you to see or enter your current location, get directions to another location and measure routes. They also can display maps. The Garmin ETrex Legend has all of these features. The map option on this device lets you view locations on the device itself or on your computer. Getting and viewing the maps is a rather straightforward process that can be done in a few steps.

Press the power button and hold it until the device is turned on.

Wait for the GPS to find a satellite signal. This will take a few seconds.

Press the "Quit" key until the "Map Page" is displayed. You can now view maps that will let you see your destination and the destination of the places to which you would like to travel.

Get a map and create a route. Do this by pressing the "Find" button. This will bring up a list of saved points, or "Waypoints". You will also have the option of typing in a desired location by address or name.

Select a Waypoint by using the arrows to highlight the location that you would like to choose. They will be sorted by nearest to farthest from your current location. Selecting a Waypoint will bring up a map of the area, how to get there, and any previous route that you have saved. If you choose to seek a new location, type in the address, town, state, etc. This will bring up a map of that area and a route to get there. Follow on screen prompts to take further actions.

Tips & Warnings
If you are using this GPS for the first time, it may take up to 15 minutes for the device to find a satellite signal.
