Locate the EGR Valve on My Rodeo

Locating the EGR valve in your Isuzu Rodeo's engine compartment is simple. The EGR valve for all vehicles is located on the intake manifold, the location of which can vary between models, but in the Isuzu Rodeo it's in an easy-to-access area. EGR is an acronym for exhaust gas recirculation. This valve is an emissions control component well known for its odd and hard-to-miss shape. Find the EGR valve on your Isuzu Rodeo so you can prepare to clean or replace it.

Instructions

    • 1

Shut down the Isuzu Rodeo's engine, and pull the hood release lever beneath the dash. Step in front of the hood, and open it. Raise the hood support rod to keep the hood open.

    • 2

Step to the passenger side of the engine compartment.

    • 3

Inspect the area against the firewall slightly left of center. The firewall is the wall separating the engine compartment from the Rodeo's cabin.

    • 4

Find the Rodeo's EGR valve a few inches from the firewall. It is attached to the intake manifold. The EGR valve is about the size of a small cup. The top of this metallic object is shaped somewhat like the dome of a hat, or a flying saucer. You'll also see a vacuum hose coming from the EGR valve.

Tips & Warnings

  • If your Rodeo still has its vacuum hose diagram, you may be able to locate the Rodeo's EGR valve based on the vacuum hose color. Inspect the brace in front of the radiator in the engine compartment. Look for a label marked "Vacuum diagram." Find "EGR" on the diagram and note the color of the hose on the diagram. Inspect the engine compartment to find the particular hose by color.
