How to Find Signal Strength With DirecTV

How to Find Signal Strength With DirecTV thumbnail
Test your DirecTV signal using your remote.

If you are able to view programming with DirecTV but the images are frozen or pixelated, you may have a problem with your satellite signal. You can test your signal strength in a few quick steps. Other problems like a snowy, black or green screen can also be resolved by performing a signal meter test using your DirecTV remote control or set top receiver. If you have a signal strength lower than 70 (or 60 on high-definition receivers) you will need to contact DirecTV's support line.

Instructions

    • 1

Press the "Menu" button on your remote control or DirecTV receiver.

    • 2

Select the onscreen "Setup" or "Installation" menus, and select "Signal Meter Test."

    • 3

Run the signal meter test. Call customer service if your troubleshooting problem persists or if your signal reading is lower than normal.

Tips & Warnings

  • Some transponders may have a zero signal strength result, which is normal. With new satellite dishes, DirecTV does not use transponders 4, 12, 18, 20, 26 and 28 to deliver a signal.
