How to Remove the Brake Light Switch on My 2000 Saturn LS1

The brake light switch, which delivers a signal to the brake lights when the pedal is pressed, is a vital component of the braking system. In a 2000 Saturn LS1, the switch is located near the top of the brake pedal, attached to the pedal behind the lower dashboard trim panel. The switch can be removed by most backyard mechanics, preparing for replacement of the switch or as part of a larger repair.

Things You'll Need

• Phillips screwdriver
• Small slotted screwdriver
• Socket set

Instructions

1. Remove the four retaining screws with a Phillips screwdriver on the lower plastic trim under the steering wheel.

2. Remove the screws on the brake list switch cover with a Phillips screwdriver.

3. Detach the electrical connections from the brake light switch. The small tabs on the plastic connectors may need to be moved with a small slotted screwdriver to detach the connectors.

4. Remove the two bolts holding the brake light switch in place with a socket wrench.

5. Remove the brake light switch from the interior.
