Learn how to troubleshoot your electric golf cart.

Electric golf carts allow you to use electricity instead of gas to power your golf cart. Electric golf carts operate on batteries charged from a proper source. Most electric golf carts can reach speeds of up to 25 miles per hour and one battery charge can last up to 20 miles. Should your golf cart stop working you should check the batteries first, then the charging port and finally the electric motor.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Grab the handle on the seat cushion of the golf cart. Pull the handle up to lift the seat. Inspect the exposed batteries and check for dirt.

    • 2

Clean the battery terminals by spraying them with battery terminal spray. Check the batteries for loose wires. Tighten the wires by screwing them back into their connected posts with a screwdriver.

    • 3

Test the wall outlet that you use as a charging source. Plug the 120-volt tester into the outlet and check the meter reading. If the meter reads less than 15-amp, your charging outlet should be replaced or you can try using a different charging outlet. To replace the charging outlet, you should consult a certified electrician.

Reset the motor by opening the panel located on the back of the golf cart. With a screwdriver, unscrew the screws holding the panel in place. Turn the screwdriver counterclockwise to loosen each screw. Set each screw to the side.

    • 5

Remove the panel and set it to the side. Locate an exposed red button. Press the button to reset the motor.

    • 6

Contact an electric golf cart technician for further repair if the golf cart still does not work.
