How to Make Your Boat Trailer Into a Flatbed Trailer
Choosing a boat trailer to convert into a flatbed trailer should done with proper planning. Caution must be taken not to build the flat bed to hold a larger load than the trailer was originally designed to carry. The proper wheel size and care to balance the load over the wheels must also be taken. After determining the trailer is a good candidate for conversion the average weekend handyman can complete the conversion in about two days.
Things You'll Need
- Safety glasses
- Electric saw with metal cutting blade.
- Wrench kit
- Tape measure
- Steel bolts 3/8" by 1 1/2" as needed
- Electric drill
- Bit kit
- Aluminum or steel panel

Put on safety glasses. Using the wrench kit remove all items from the trailer that are bolted on and are higher than the trailer frame.

Using the electric saw cut off all tabs that protrude higher than the frame. Lay the aluminum or steel plate on the frame assuring it is flat and is properly supported at all edges.

Mark the panel. If it needs cutting to fit then cut it to size.with the electric saw. Mark the places on the panel for drilling the holes for the bolts to match the frame. Drill all the holes in the panel.

Lay the panel on the frame and using it as a template, mark the frame for drilling. Remove the panel and drill the matching holes in the frame.

Lay the panel on the frame. Attach the panel to the frame by matching the holes using the steel bolts and the wrench kit.
