The CR-25 offers scanning in seven modes including grayscale, black and white, 24-bit color and 300 dpi resolutions. It is equipped with a hi-speed USB 2.0 for plug-and-play connectivity, and features the Canon-patented magnetic head that reads E13B or CMC7 MICR code lines. This check scanner can also handle items up to 4.2 by 9 inches. Regular maintenance for the CR-25 requires cleaning with items you'll typically have around the office or that are available commercially. It also aids in the machine maintaining its quality performance.

  1. Cleaning the Exterior and Inside of the Scanner

      Wipe the damp cloth over the exterior of the scanner. Make sure the cloth is only damp, wring it out to be sure.

      Wipe the exterior with a dry cloth to remove any moisture from the damp cloth.

      Turn off the scanner and spray the compressed air into the scanner to remove paper particles or dust. You should also do this after every large scanning job.

    Rollers, Sensor Glass and Magnetic Head Cleaning

      Open the maintenance cover of the machine by placing your finger around the "open" lever. Open the reading unit while lowering the "open" lever.

      Wipe each roller with a damp (not wet) cloth while rotating the rollers in the direction the arrows indicate. Do not force rollers to turn, only wipe off exposed dirt on rollers that refuse to turn all the way.

      Wipe hard-to-reach rollers with a cotton swab.

      Wipe the entire surface of the two sensor glass areas with cotton swabs. Do not try to forcefully scratches. If there are scratches, contact your Canon dealer for replacement or service as scratches can cause reading errors or marks on the images.

      Use audio head cleaner to clean the magnetic head. The magnetic head is located on the inside of the maintenance cover. If the magnetic head is dirty, the machine cannot scan certain characters.

    Ink Head and Ink Absorber

      Open the maintenance cover, and locate the ink absorber located just above the magnetic head.

      Wipe off any dirt around the ink absorber with a dampened cloth. Replace the ink absorber if your images remain smudged after cleaning -- consult your Canon dealer or service representative in this case.

      Open the imprinter cover with the maintenance door open.

      Squeeze both sides of the print position adjustment lever then move the print cartridge carriage into the lowest position.

      Follow the arrows to turn the ink cartridge lock lever, then grasp the tab and pull out the ink cartridge. Wipe off any ink on the nozzle, then reinstall the ink cartridge.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure you gently close the maintenance cover until it clicks; do not force it shut.
