How to Get an ASE Certification From an NATEF School

In 1972 the American automotive industry recognized the need for trained technicians, and set up a not-for-profit organization called National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) to train, test, and certify mechanics in various aspects of automobile repair. National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) is an independent nonprofit body funded by the automotive industry that evaluates technician training programs and recommends ASE certification if they meet industry standards.

Studies indicate that the ASE certification tests are difficult, as only one in three candidates pass. Use the practice test programs offered by ASE to ensure that your preparation for the certification is thorough and comprehensive.
ASE certification is valid for a period of five years. You have to constantly update your knowledge and skill sets according to the changing trends in the automotive industry. You will have to appear for a test to renew certification at the end of a five-year period.
Work experience is mandatory to get certified by the ASE. You will not be certified even if you clear the exam without adequate work experience.
