How to Brew Matcha
Matcha is perhaps best known for its role in the traditional Japanese tea ceremony. This powdered green tea is unusual in its preparation. You do not steep it in bags or tea balls and remove the residual. Instead, you brew the tea by mixing the powder with hot water and then drinking the resulting product. In other words, you actually consume the tea leaves when you drink matcha. Does this Spark an idea?

Pour hot water into a tea bowl, swirl it around and pour it out. Wipe the bowl completely dry. This will warm the bowl in preparation for the tea.

Measure out 1/4 to 1 tsp of matcha and pour this into the warmed tea bowl.. The amount you should use depends on how thick you want your tea to be and the size of your tea bowl. For a thin tea in a small bowl, use 1/4 tsp of matcha is sufficient, and you can go up to 1 tsp for a thick tea in a larger bowl.

Add 1/4 cup to 1 cup of hot (but not boiling) water to your tea bowl containing the matcha. Again, the amount you should use depends both on the size of your tea bowl and the desired thickness of your tea.

Whisk the water and matcha together until the resulting drink is thoroughly blended and frothy. This may take one to two minutes. Drink the tea immediately, before the powder has time to settle to the bottom of the bowl.

Tips & Warnings
If you do not have a tea bowl and a bamboo whisk, you can substitute a mug or regular bowl and a fork. You may need to whisk longer with the fork to achieve the frothy finish.
