How to Send Holiday Fruit
A holiday gift of fresh fruit is always in good taste. If you're looking for an ideal holiday gift for a fruit lover or a health-conscious friend, consider a fruit box or basket. If you're on a budget, save money by creating the gift yourself. Select ripe, in-season fruit for the best taste, quality and price. Choose all one type fruit or send a sampling of several different kinds. Consider the recipient's favorite kinds of fruit or any allergies she may have when designing the perfect fruit box.

1
Select the fruit you want to send as a gift. Choose fresh, ripe, seasonal produce, such as crisp red and green apples and golden pears as a Thanksgiving gift or juicy oranges and grapefruits and tart cranberries as a Christmas present.
-
2
Choose a container, such as a woven basket or wooden crate, in which to pack the fruit. Pick one that's large enough to accommodate the amount of product you are sending.

3
Place a filler in the container to protect the fruit and provide decoration. Fill the vessel with shredded colorful paper, tissue paper or a few linen towels, which the recipient can reuse. Arrange the fruit on top of the filler material, placing the largest and hardest produce on the bottom.
-
4
Wrap the entire fruit basket or box with cellophane to keep the arrangement in place. Secure the cellophane with transparent tape. Wrap the cellophane-covered basket with bubble wrap to protect the fruit from bruising.
-
5
Place the wrapped container in a cardboard box. Add Styrofoam peanuts around the container so it fits snugly in the box and won't shift during shipment.
-
6
Seal the box with packing tape. Write the recipient's address on the top center of the box using a black marker and your address in the top left corner.
-
7
Take the box to a post office and request to have the package send via Express Mail or Priority Mail to ensure the fruit is fresh upon arrival. You can also use a delivery service such as UPS, FedEx or DHL; these companies will also pick up your basket as well as deliver it.
