Instructions

  1. Charity Navigator

    • 1

Visit Charity Navigator's homepage (see Resources). Charity Navigator's slogan is "Your Guide to Intelligent Giving."

    • 2

Click on the word "Advanced" next to the search box.

    • 3

Type in the word "children" in the provided search box. Customize the search by choosing your state and city from the drop-down menu if you want to support a children's charity close to home.

    • 4

Click "Submit" to view your results. There will be a list of children's charities displayed. Click on each one for more details so you can narrow down which charity you want to support.

    • 5

Use the star chart to the right of each charity to help you determine if the charity is legitimate. A charity that gets one star most likely isn't trustworthy. It is best to stick to charities that have three to four stars.

    • 6

Review the contact information for the charity you choose by clicking on its name. Contact the charity when you are ready to begin donating.

    Children's Charities of America

    • 7

Visit Children's Charities of America's homepage (see Resources).

    • 8

Click on "Charity Search" on the left-hand side of the screen. Here you will be able to choose a state and keyword to help you search for a children's charity you may be interested in supporting. For example, type in the keyword "hospital" and choose the state "Pennsylvania." Love the Children would then pop up. This charity sends medical supplies to children's hospitals in Korea.

    • 9

Review the list of charities that appear after you type in your search criteria. Click on each one to gather more information so that you can find the charitable organization you want to support.

    • 10

Write down the charity's contact information, which is available when you click on the name of the charity.

    • 11

Contact the charity when you are ready to donate.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have a specific children's charity in mind, you can type the name into a search engine, or into the search fields on the two websites mentioned.
