How to Determine If Someone Is Telling the Truth?

Being able to tell if someone is lying or telling the truth is a good skill to acquire. People naturally have a tendency to trust others, which is not a bad thing. But if you learn how to distinguish lies from truth it will save you a lot of trouble in life, love and business.

Instructions

1. Watch their body language. If someone is lying to you they will avoid eye contact, their facial gestures may be limited and stiff. They may be pre-occupied with fidgety hand movements such as scratching behind their ears or scratching their nose. The actions of someone who is telling the truth will display the opposite traits.

2. Listen to their response. Someone who is telling the truth will want to talk about the subject hand. Someone who is lying will try to avoid the issue at hand by making a sarcastic comment or a joke---anything to change the subject. They may even talk around the subject adding unnecessary details to convince you.

3. Investigate. Check up on the information that was told to you. This is the quickest and easiest way to find out if someone is telling the truth.

4. Ask them about it again later. Chances are if they are telling the truth their story will be the same the second time around. Liars often lie so much that they can barely keep up with their stories.
