How to Install an Alpine Overhead DVD Player

Having an overhead DVD player installed in your vehicle can be the difference between a boring trip and an entertaining one for your passengers. Connecting an Alpine overhead DVD player is much less complicated than it sounds. You simply remove the dome light to use its wiring so you don't have to add any wires to your vehicle. The mounting bracket hangs above the ceiling hole where the dome light used to be in order to cover the void. The installation uses common household tools and only takes an hour to complete.

Instructions

    • 1

Fit the small flat-headed screwdriver between the ceiling and the dome light. Maneuver the screwdriver around the dome light to loosen it from its place. Use your hands to pull the dome light from the ceiling hole once you can fit your finger between the ceiling and the dome light. Disconnect the wire harness from the back of the dome light.

    • 2

Push the wires up into the ceiling hole and cover the hole with the mounting bracket. Use a carpenter's knife to trace around the mounting bracket cutting the headliner. Remove the mounting bracket to remove the cut piece of headliner. Removing the headliner that lies under the mounting bracket is important because it allows the mounting bracket to sit flush against the ceiling, thus reducing screen vibration while the vehicle is in motion.

    • 3

Pull the wires out of the hole and fit them through the slot in the mounting bracket, then fit the mounting bracket over the ceiling hole. Use a drill with a machine tap drill bit to drill a hole through each corner of the mounting bracket into the ceiling. Do not drill deeper than the depth of the ceiling. A machine tap drill bit creates threads in the hole that are used for securing screws.

Insert a screw through each drill hole and tighten them with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Plug the wire harness into the back of the DVD player. Slide the DVD player onto the mounting bracket until it clicks into place.
