How to Find a Smog Check Station
Depending on the age of your car, you may have to carry out a smog check on it up to twice a year if your state's law requires it, or if you wish to sell the car. The smog test checks the amount of pollutants that are being emitted from your tailpipe. Locating your nearest smog check station is a relatively simple task.

Search your phone book for the section dedicated to smog check stations. Locate one near you and phone them to check prices, and to book a time slot for your car to be tested.

Contact your dealer to glean their recommendations for the nearest smog check station; they can usually recommend someone that they use to get their own used car inventory tested.

Use a popular search engine to find smog check stations in your area -- simply enter "Smog Check Station," the name of your town/city, county and state and press "Search". Alternatively, use the online Yellow Pages and type "Smog Check" into the "Find A Business" box at the top of the Web page and your town/city name into the box to the right of it.

For California smog testing, visit the Bureau of Automotive Repair website (see References). Click on "Consumers" on the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click on "Where Do I Get a Smog Check?". Click one of the three options that best applies to your situation. Click on the Registration Renewal Notice that applies to your situation. Enter your zip code. Fill in the details on the "Select Stations to List" page. Remember to tick the items in the box on the right, such as "Test and Repair" or "Test Only." Press "Submit." Locate a smog test check station near you and call to book an appointment.
