How to Import Contacts From Your Phone

Save

Most cellular phones store the information from your contacts list --- including the contact's name, phone number, address and any other relevant information --- on a Subscriber Identity Module (more commonly known as a SIM card). This card enables the user to transfer the information from one phone to another. Additionally, Google provides a service known as Google Sync, which allows you to synchronize the contacts associated with your Google account (or Gmail) with the contacts on your mobile device.

Things You'll Need

  • SIM card
  • Google account
  • Paper clip

SIM Card for Windows

  • Insert the SIM card into your Windows Phone. Tap "People" on the "Start" menu.

  • Click and hold at the top of your screen. Click "Settings" to access the next menu. If the "Import SIM Contacts" button is dimmed, your SIM card's information has already been imported to your phone.

  • Click "Import SIM Contacts." The phone will now guide you through the rest of the importing process with a series of instructions.

SIM Card for iPhone

  • Insert a paper clip into the small hole next to the card on the top of your iPhone. Remove the SIM card in the phone and insert the card from which you wish to import contacts.

  • Tap the "Settings" button and click the "Mail, Contacts, Calendar" menu. Tap "Import SIM Contacts" to import the contact information to your phone.

  • Remove the SIM card and reinsert your iPhone's SIM card. Restart your phone to ensure that the changes take effect.

Google Sync

  • Visit Google Mobile's website at http://www.google.com/mobile/sync/. A list of mobile devices will be shown on the right side of the page. Watch the video for additional information about the Google Sync program, and determine which device you wish to synchronize with your Google contacts.

  • Click the link for your mobile device. Depending on your device, you will either be directed to an application download for Google Sync, or a series of instructions which describe how to set up Google Sync.

  • Read and follow the instructions for your mobile device's Google Sync setup. The service will match the contacts on your phone with the contacts in your Gmail acccount. If you do not have any Gmail contacts, Google Sync will create them for you.
