How to Lubricate Vinyl Top Cover Zippers

Routinely cleaning and lubricating the zipper on your car's vinyl top cover can prevent the zipper from becoming stuck or hard to move along the track. Outdoor elements, such as rain, snow, dirt and dust can cause rust or buildup along the zipper teeth or track, leading to stuck or hard-to-move zippers. A zipper cleaner and lubricant can remove this, allowing the zipper to move freely.

Things You'll Need

• Zipper cleaner and lubricator
• Soft-bristled brush

Instructions

1. Unzip the vinyl top cover zipper.

2. Spray both sides of the zipper track with a thin layer of a zipper cleaner and lubricator.

3. Use a small, soft-bristled brush to rub the cleaner into the zipper track. Be sure the cleaner and lubricant get into the teeth. Alternatively, some cleaners come with their own brush. Use this brush to rub into the track.

4. Zip the zipper back and forth along the track. Not only does this ensure the cleaner is deep into the track, it works the lubricant into the zipper. Add more lubricant if the zipper does not move freely along the track.
