How to Build a Wooden Squat Stand

How to Build a Wooden Squat Stand thumbnail
Use an electric drill to put together a wooden squat stand.

A squat stand is a low table-like structure that you can use to step on and off of when doing squats as part of your workout. You can make a wooden squat stand yourself at home rather than purchasing one from a fitness store. Using a few basic woodworking materials and tools, even carpentering novices can build a sturdy squat stand to get in shape.

Things You'll Need

  • Small board
  • 4 wooden blocks, 4 inches by 2 inches
  • Sand paper
  • Electric drill
  • 4 3-inch screws

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a wooden board. The board should be about 2 feet by 1 foot and about 2 inches thick. Some building supply stores will cut the board to size at no extra cost.

    • 2

Purchase four wooden blocks. The blocks should at least 4 inches high and 2 inches wide.

    • 3

Smooth the surfaces of all of the wooden pieces. Use sand paper to remove any rough patches and splinters.

    • 4

Attach one wooden block at each corner of the wooden board. The longest side of the blocks should be horizontal to the board. Attach them by drilling a screw through the wooden board and into each wooden block.

    • 5

Cover the tops of the screws with glazing putty. Allow to dry.

    • 6

Paint the stand. Allow it to dry. Apply a second coat if necessary and let dry before using.

Tips & Warnings

  • Apply a coat of polyurethane to prevent the paint from chipping.
