How to Print With SonicWall VPN
The SonicWall SSL VPN network appliances are a way to provide remote access to intranet resources for non-technical users. Since SSL VPN client connections are handled through a Web browser, users do not need to install an additional client. However, when printing through the VPN, the SonicWall NetExtender client is required to properly set up the connection. While there are a lot of steps in setting up the client, the set up itself is not a difficult process.

Launch an additional tab or window in your Web browser and navigate to the domain name or IP address of the SonicWall SSL VPN appliance. Log in using your user credentials, then click the "NetExtender" button. Click the "Install" button when the dialog appears, then "Continue Anyway" when you receive the security warning. Once the NetExtender installation is complete you will see the NetExtender status window appear.

Right-click the NetExtender icon in the task bar, then click the "Properties..." option from the context menu. Click the "Connection Scripts" option from the menu. Click to check the "Automatically execute the batch file NxConnect.bat" option, then click the "Edit NxConnect.bat" button.

Scroll to the bottom of the file and add the line "net use LPT1 \\Server\\Printer /user:Domain\User" where "Server" is the name of the server where the printer is located, "Printer" is the name of the printer, "Domain" is the domain that the user is a part of, and "User" is your user name. Click "File," then "Save" to save the "NxConnect.bat" connection script.

Click the "Disconnect" button in the NetExtender status window, then reconnect to the same SSL VPN network appliance using the NetExtender application. Once connected, the "NxConnect.bat" script will run and you will be able to access your printer over the remote connection.

Tips & Warnings
To install the NetExtender application through the SonicWall Virtual Office portal you will need to add the SSL VPN's domain name or IP address to your Web browser's list of trusted sites.
