How to Know if Honey is Pure

How to Know if Honey is Pure thumbnail
Pure honey has healthy benefits.

Just because the label on a jar or bottle of honey says that it is pure, does not always mean that it is. There are measures you can take to make sure that the honey you are eating or feeding to your family is indeed the real, 100 percent from bee hives, delicious, good-for-you honey. Real honey has great health benefits, so make sure you are getting all of them by verifying that your honey is all natural. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Read the label. If the ingredient label says anything besides "pure honey" or "organic honey," then it is not all natural honey.

    • 2

Buy your honey from a local beekeeper or farmer's market so you know that the honey came straight from the hive.

    • 3

To test honey at home, drop a tablespoon of honey into a glass of water. If the honey gathers at the bottom of the glass and does not mix with the water, it is pure honey. Pure honey is resistant to mixing with water, so if it does mix, it is not pure.

Tips & Warnings

  • It can be next to impossible to determine if honey is 100 percent pure without knowing the beekeeper. This way you know the process the beekeeper uses and all the other details in order to verify the purity of the honey.
