How to Test Your Bandwidth for Free

Bandwidth refers to the speed at which data is transferred, according to NTC Hosting. It is useful to know your bandwidth speed if you plan to work in a telecommuting position and want to find out how long it will take to upload or download large files to and from servers. If want to test your bandwidth for free, there are several websites you can use to find your speed.

Instructions

1. Go to a website that allows you to test your bandwidth for free, such as Bandwidth, CNET or Bandwidth Place.

2. Select your computer location, such "Home" or "Office" if prompted and click the "Start Test" to test your bandwidth. It may take a couple of minutes to finish testing your bandwidth speed.

3. Look at the numbers beside "Your line speed" (CNET) or "Download Speed" and "Upload Speed" (Bandwidth and Bandwidth Place) to see the results for your bandwidth test. Use the number to determine whether your Internet connection is fast enough for your needs.
