Rabbits are good animals for children to raise and show when you have limited space. Rabbits can also provide a good source of meat for your family.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Rabbit Bottle Waterers
  • Rabbit Cages
  • Rabbit Feeders
  • Rabbit Feeds
  • Rabbit Nest Boxes
  • Rabbit Salt Spools
  1. Step 1

Keep buck and does separate. Three or four does can be kept together in an appropriate-size hutch.

  2. Step 2

Use 1 buck per 10 does.

  3. Step 3

Breed does at their maturity - 6 months of age for small to medium breeds and 9 to 12 months of age for large or giant breeds.

  4. Step 4

Pick the doe to be bred and place her in her own hutch for two weeks before mating.

  5. Step 5

Place the doe in the buck's pen for mating. Place her with the buck twice - once in the evening and again in the morning.

  6. Step 6

Remove the doe after each mating.

  7. Step 7

Place a nest box in the hutch 28 days after breeding.

Tips & Warnings
  • The gestation period is about 32 days.

on 7/3/2009 MarellsLops I tried breeding My Holland Lops today twise, but both times my Doe wont let my Buck breed her, shes 7 Months old and this would be her first time being bread, My Buck though is a little over a year old and hes been bread before, he keeps trying to breed her, but she wont let him, is there away to help her into want to be bread or if there is away I can tell that shes ready, Both are in sepret Cages but are in a big cage together when I let them breed for 10 minutes, but hes not getting her, because her tail is in the way, and she keeps tucking her little rear in and wont stick her rear up in order for him to breed her.

Hi, you say they have their own cages and you put them into the big one for mating. It may be because of that she is not accepting him! the doe needs to be in her own cage for at least two weeks before and then you bring the buck into her cage for breedi...

on 6/7/2009 hello. I hav looked at the other comments and i still haven't found my answer. I am trying o breed my two rabbits, they live in the same cage and share almost everything, plus they grew up together also. Although they did fight one time, but that was it. Every time the male wants to breed with the female, she chases him away, but allows him to come back and lay next to her or groom her. So did their fight incident have anything to do with their breeding?
