How to Lay Out a Newsletter
A newsletter provides regular information or news to a group's members. Its layout should make the identity of the group or topic clear, and present relevant information in a way that readers find easy to navigate and process. Once you and other organizers have created content, formatting a newsletter requires basic computing skills and a little creativity.

1
Open a blank word processing or desktop publishing document. Set the page size, orientation (landscape or portrait) and number of pages. Typical newsletter designs include one or two sides of A4, or a four-page A4 booklet folded to A5.
-
2
Type the organization's name or upload the organization's banner as your heading. This sits best across the full width of the first page.
-
-
3
Type the date underneath the main heading, in smaller type. Alternatively, type the edition or issue number.
-
4
Set margins and columns. A4 newsletters work well in two columns, with a margin of at least 1.5 cm.
-
5
Type the newsletter's content, or copy and paste from another document. Size 12 font suits most readers. Put headings in a larger font, such as size 14, and in bold.
-
6
Insert pictures regularly, if available. This breaks up the text, making it more readable.
-
7
Divide newsletter items to make each section clear. A separating line makes a simple divider. Adding a box or border to alternate items can help make the layout clear.
-
8
Add advertisements, making them distinct from the main newsletter content with borders or boxes.
-
9
Add a box or section giving contact details for the organization. This belongs under the main heading or at the end of the newsletter.
