      Research whether or not your desired business name is available or already taken by another business. This can be done by using the free name search tool that is located on the Los Angeles County Clerk's website.

      Complete the "Application For Fictitious Business Name Statement." The application requires information such as the name of your business, name(s) of business owner(s). the business address, and the type of business. The application can be printed and downloaded from the Los Angeles County Clerk's website. You can also visit the Van Nuys District Office in person to request the application. This office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Business name registrations are accepted from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.

      Take the completed application and a $26 filing fee to the Van Nuys District Office. There is an additional fee of $5 for additional names filed with this registration. If you are paying with a check or money order, make it payable to the L.A. County Clerk.
