How to Mount Ruger Rings
Ruger firearms produces a variety of types of rifles -- available in semi-automatic, breach loading and bolt action -- to meet the needs of sportsmen and professionals alike. While Ruger does not produce its own scope rings, all Ruger models are compatible with most commercially produced scope rings. SR-556 rifles, and certain models of the Mini-14 line, are equipped with tactical rail-mounts which are compatible with tactical rings. Before mounting scope rings to your Ruger rifle, check that the weapon is unloaded.
Things You'll Need
- Small slotted screwdriver (for traditional scope rings)
- Standard slotted screwdriver (for tactical scope rings)

Traditional Dovetail Rings
-
1
Locate the four plug-screws on top of the upper receiver. Two screws will be located in front of the rifle action, and two behind. Remove them with your small, slotted screwdriver.
-
2
Place the mounts of your scope rings into position on top of your rifle. Use the supplied screws to tighten them securely.
-
-
3
Place the bases of the scope rings in the top of the mounts; the rings should be parallel with a barrel. Rotate the rings 90 degrees until they lock in place.
Tactical Rings
-
4
Loosen the retention screws at the base of your tactical rings by hand. Widen the mounting bracket.
-
5
Place the tactical scope rings on the rail mount. The retention screws should fit in the slots that are cut across the rail mount.
-
6
Align the mounting bracket over the sides of the rail mount and tighten the retention rings. After you have tightened them, use a screwdriver to turn the screws and additional quarter-turn. Do not overtighten.
