How to Add Me to SOP IRC

How to Add Me to SOP IRC thumbnail
Becoming a channel service operator on IRC is a fairly simple process.

IRC, or Internet relay chat, allows users to converse either privately with one another or in group settings in real time. Participants use an IRC program, such as mIRC, to access IRC servers, where they'll find channels and group chat rooms. Many IRC servers use a program called Chanserv to help organize and run individual channels. Chanserv allows users to register channels and change channel settings. Among these settings is the assignation of channel operator privileges to other users. Channel operators have the ability to remove and ban people from the channel. SOPs are high-level channel operators, able to add standard-level channel operators to the channel database.

Instructions

    • 1

      Open your IRC program.

    • 2

      Connect to an IRC server.

    • 3

Register your nickname if you have not done so already.

    • 4

Enter a channel you'd like to register. It must be currently unowned.

    • 5

Type the following (minus the quotation marks) to register the channel: "/msg chanserv register channel password description"; replace "channel" with the channel name, "password" with the administrator password you would like for the channel (you will need it to change some channel settings) and "description" with the description you'd like people to see should they query Chanserv for information on your channel.

    • 6

Find someone you'd like to elevate to SOP in your channel. (He must have a registered nickname.) Type the following (minus the quotation marks): "/msg chanserv sop channel add nickname"; replace "channel" with the channel name and replace "nickname" with the nickname of the person in question.
