How to Sharpen a Knife on the Edge of Vehicle Window Glass
Keeping a knife well-sharpened is critical to maximizing the lifetime of the tool and keeping it in good working condition. Regular sharpening also makes each individual sharpening much easier; fortunately, sharpening a knife is surprisingly easy. You can use nearly any hard surface to sharpen a knife once you have the sharpening motion mastered. Some of the easiest and most common surfaces are often the best. Roll the car window down so that you have enough room to move comfortably, but that the top of the window is still above the frame.

Draw the knife against the frosted top edge of the glass. Begin by holding the knife firmly in your hand, placing it against the edge of the glass with the blade facing away from you and then, while applying some downward pressure, moving the knife across the edge of the window. Gradually draw back on the knife so that the full edge of blade runs across the edge of the window and only the point of the knife is in contact with the window by the time you complete the motion.

Turn the knife around so that the other side of the blade is in contact with the window and run it along the glass in the opposite direction, reversing the previous motion but still keeping the blade facing away from you.

Repeat the motion until your knife is adequately sharpened. It should take about nine or ten full strokes to sharpen a knife. If it is taking longer, try applying slightly more downward pressure, but be careful not to apply too much pressure in order to avoid damage to the blade or the window.

Test the sharpness of your blade against any object to verify that your knife if sharp.

Roll the window back up and safely store your knife.

Tips & Warnings
Keep a constant angle with the knife while you move it down the window in order to create an even blade.
Keep constant pressure on the blade while moving it across the window, also to sharpen evenly.
Sharpen your knife often in order to avoid dull edges and more complicated sharpening work.
If your knife is already very dull before sharpening, apply some oil to the blade before beginning.
While car window glass is actually quite strong, it can break or crack if you hold your knife at an excessive or awkward angle. Make sure you are holding your knife firmly at a constant angle and only coming into contact with the frosted edge at the top of the window.
