How to Dry Timber Slabs
Timber slabs can be used to build a decorative patio or installed as a rustic-style flooring indoors. If laying a floor indoors, first lay down a plastic membrane. Outdoors, lay the slabs on a base of sand and cement dry mix. Ensure the slabs are level by using a spirit level. Before you get started, the timber must be thoroughly dried. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Store the timber slabs in a dry area, out of rain, snow and other adverse weather conditions. A wood shed or garage provides adequate shelter. During summer months, the wooden slabs may be stored outdoors but they must be covered with a waterproof tarp if rain is expected.
-
2
Stack the wooden slabs so their edges are on the ground. Tilt the slabs so they are standing on the thin edges. Leave a small gap between the slabs so the air can dry the face of the wood.

Turn the slabs on their edges every couple of days. This way, the bottom edges will have a chance to dry out. The slabs will crack and split if they are not dried properly. Ideally, dry the wooden slabs for about a year before using.
