How to Clear and Level Land in West Texas

Texas has a wide variety of geography that can be cleared with ease.

Western Texas is semiarid in geography. Fertile plains are prominent around Abilene, and many dry, arid fields dominate the remainder of western Texas. San Angelo is the primary commercial center of the western part of the state. Clearing and leveling land in this specific region can be done effectively with the proper planning and equipment. Utilizing the dry soil and lack of elevation gain to your advantage, leveling the land can be a quick and streamlined process.

• Leveling machine
• Wheelbarrows

Instructions

1. Gather the proper number of labor staff to work with you on clearing the acreage of land outlined for them. Assign five to eight people per acre. Have these workers cover various areas of the property, clearing out large rocks and roots that are easy to pick up. Use shovels, rakes and wheelbarrows to deliver the debris to trucks located around the property.

2. Hire a professional who can run a tractor, brush cutter and track carrier. These large pieces of earth-moving equipment make short work out of large projects for land clearing. Remove all brush, shrubs, roots, rocks and trees as necessary. Place the cleared trees and brush into a tree harvesting machine, to recycle the tree product for alternative uses, such as mulch.

3. Rent a large, pull-type scraper attachment to quickly level the land. Since West Texas is in a semiarid climate, the soil will be dry and easy to negotiate. Attach the scraper to the end of a tractor, or rent the full setup from a local commercial equipment warehouse, to quickly and accurately level the land.

4. Move the soil around the property as necessary to level the area. Move the tractor and scraper in circular or serpentine motions, to equally distribute soil across the full range of acreage.
