1
Use the phone book or Internet to find heating oil companies that are in your delivery area. Make a list of these companies, addresses and the phone numbers.
-
2
Call each company and record their cost of oil per gallon and any delivery charges. It's also wise to find out if they allow you to "lock in" a price if you decide to order from them. Ask if they set price caps, which is an amount that is the highest you'll ever have to pay if oil prices go up.

3
Find out if each company offers a budget plan, a "30 days same as cash" plan, any discounts if you pay cash on delivery and if the company provides 24-hour assistance. Find out if regular service calls or maintenance are included with any of the companies.
-
4
Look over your list and decide which company will give you the best deal for the best services. It's wise to complete this task as soon as possible, because oil prices change on a daily basis.
